The Marketing Melange

A blog about all things marketing in the CPG, wellness, and entertainment industries.

Join as me as I explore, learn, and create.

Welcome! I’m glad you’re here. In this entry I’m going to discuss what you can expect from this blog as well as introduce myself to you 👋🏼

Each week, I will cover topics within three industries: the CPG space (drinks in colorful cans/snacks/household items), wellness (health/fitness/dating), as well as entertainment (theater/film/tv). You may be thinking, ‘you’re spreading yourself across a lot of categories! Isn’t that a little ambitious?’ I know and yes, I am. See, I’m currently in my second to last semester of grad school at NYU 👩🏼‍🎓 and I’m thinking about what areas of marketing I would most like to spend my career in. Naturally, the best way to find out is to practice and do research on all three! Hence, The Marketing Melange—hodgepodge, mishmash, assortment. It fits, no?

Specifically, I will be exploring these industries through a marketing lens. Perhaps there will be an article analyzing the strategy behind dating apps—what they are doing that works and what they could do better. An article may explore the design elements of a marketing campaign in the entertainment space. Another may showcase different buyer personas for CPG brands. The list goes on…

I’ll also be exploring general marketing trends as they come up. For example, trends in the commercial space, subway ads, or how AI is pivoting the marketing space. My goal is to become an expert in the field, and in doing so, I plan on reading a lot of articles to familiarize myself with the industry. By writing about it, I also hope to challenge myself by forming quick decisions and awareness surrounding topics of interest.

Oh! And I should mention—I’m planning to move to London🇬🇧 post graduation. While this won’t be a personal blog, although all blogs are personal when you think about it as they are a representation of a person’s thoughts around a specific topic, I am writing this here because I believe in the power of word of mouth aka WOM aka the most powerful form of marketing. And through this blog, I’m marketing myself! See what I did there? I will also be exploring topics in this blog comparing my hometown, NYC, to the UK, my future home, as a way to explore the similarities and differences in the marketing industry.

Now, I do want to introduce myself to all of you, at least in this first entry. Perhaps you read my website and see that I’ve explored a ton of industries. Perhaps you found me on LinkedIn or Medium. To get everyone on the same page, I am a 2x entrepreneur with a professional career in Partnerships, Sales, and Marketing. My undergrad was at Ithaca College where I received my BA in Theatre Studies 🎭, focusing on directing and playwriting. Post graduation, I developed TTYL—a tech-free community dedicated to human connection 📵 and Ghosts of Dates Past—a podcast to break down dating stigmas 👩🏻‍❤️‍💋‍👨🏾 in our society. From 9-5, I worked as a recruiter, an artisan market manager, in strategic partnerships for a jigsaw puzzle company🧩, and an operations manager for a start-up helping kids become entrepreneurs. Basically, I’ve lived a lot of lives. And now, I’m living as a student at NYU and will receive my Masters in Marketing degree this December.

Whew. Now that we’re all up to speed, I want to briefly touch on why marketing speaks to me. I’ve always been drawn to storytelling (theater kid at heart) and human connection. I love how marketing is another form for telling stories, but rather than a group of people being the characters, the brands are. I’ve also always been drawn to the creative space and I appreciate how marketing is able to connect people through an emotion. Yes, marketing is emotional 🥺 because we are all connected to our brands through our emotions aka the emotional benefit of a brand. So essentially, every campaign is telling a story and pulling at our heartstrings, just like how I created an experience when I was directing 🎬.

Everything comes full circle and I believe I’m on the right path. Again, thank you for being here and I hope you gain insights and aha moments along the way with me. The one thing I ask of you is to leave comments! I want to know what you’re thinking, especially if it is different than my own thoughts because we only learn from those with different perspectives. Lastly, please share this with someone you know who you think would enjoy this content. Now, let’s dive in!
